My first Interview-Part 2

After dozzing for approximately two and a half hours,i was awaken by my parents.After having bath and really a fast breakfast i rushed to catch my college bus.It was really great to see all my friends dressed in formals.

The gathering, 8:00 AM

We gathered in our college Auditorium for the preplacement talk.The venue for the tests were announced.We had to take our tests in the drawing hall.The test consisted of 3 sections of 20 mins each.After completing the test i was confident of clearing the aptitude part of the test but was worried about the verbal,also my friends had the same opinion.I thought we had to clear the sections with a minimum cutoff individually,but iam still wondering how they did it.They said the results will be out by 2:30 PM.
Atlast Completed the tests,it was 1:00 PM

We were discussing about the tests and were heading to the canteen for our afternoon meals.Our topic of discussion did not came to an end.We thought to refresh some topics for our technical interview.could partly accomplish it with my class friends.Then it was close to the time of results.we went to the Audi again.I could see all eagerly waiting faces ,but some were really cool.They were late by half an hour to the schduelde time as it was acceptable.To evaluate more than 400 papers consumes a lot of time and hence the delay was acceptable.

The big list (359), around 4:00 PM

Then our Placement officer came with a biglist of the shorlisted candiates,to be exact it was 359.He was calling the names in the order they had to go their respective panels. Some tens of names were called out ,we were eagerly waiting for ours and our friends names and each name was cheered by them.Atlast my name was called ,i belonged to the 8th panel.Thanked the Almighty and headed immediately to where my panel was.

The guys who were first interviewed were caught no sooner the took their fist step out of the room.These people spent more time explaining what was queried by the HR to us than they were interviewed.Some interviewers were really good,in the sense the just asked some expected questions as “Tell me abt urself” ,”ur hobbies& interests” etc.Some didnt even asked the resumes of our friends.There was mixed comments about each panel.

Our panel was different with some people being asked only non technical questions and some hardcore questions from the area of their interest.few were asked to write some queries in SQL.We had all the questions that were asked for our friends who preceeded us.

Went in to the room, 7:00 PM

I just went to refresh myself by washing my face.When i Came back,they called my name.I went in confidently.I was offered samosa by the Panel of two.I thanked them and said i had my snacks,though i didnt.them they asked me to tell me about myself. While i was answering i said ” iam capable of working under pressure” they stopped me there and asked me to give me an incident which justified what i said.I managed by telling them that i did a project in 12th standard during my Exam time. He gave a right smile and went to the next question.

Then the questions were centered around my area of interest ,Operating system.They also asked me few questions in HTML,SQL,DBMS,UNIX.I answered most of the questions and gave answers like “sorry sir”,”Pardon me i cant recollect” and ” i know only the basics”,but i never answered any question unfamiliar to me.

Now it was my turn

After they finished their questions i was given an opportunity to ask them.i accepted the invitation bcoz i felt that they should not have an opinion that i was not prepared to ask questions about the company.My first question to them was “what sort of a job i wud be given”.they burst into laughter and then answered me that it would be Programmer or system analyst.

After being humiliated for the first one i thought of asking a sensible question.This time my question was “what wud b my scope of improvement in ur concern”.they cant laugh this time.one of them answered me that it depends on one’s ability and he added that there are few who have become managers in a span of few years.

My final question to them was “How wud u enable us to be exposed to new technologies ?” They answered this question by saying that they had tie up with some institution which will conduct classes frequently.”Any more questions ?”,was the next question to me. i just said no and thanked them for the opportunity.

Time to wait………

After completing the interview we were hanging around the corridor and resting in the grass near our college library,dicussing everyone’s experience.though we were cracking jokes the same thought was always hindering me whether all my friends would be together again.

The final 226 at 9:30

We were asked to assemble in the Audi to call out the names of the selected canditates,as the list was pretty large to be called out near the library.We rushed inside and took the last few rows.They started calling out the names of the people recruited by them,it was 226 overall.To our surprise the first 50 odd students who were called from other departments,not even a single guy from our department.Then the shower of CSE students names were called which gave us a sigh of relief.The offer letter was given away by the chief of the Chennai branch.Then my name was called.It was one of the unforgettable moment in my life.I once again thanked the Almighty.It was a proud moment for me and my friends.I was bit worried and felt for my friends who were not selected,i thought i would miss them.But later i thought that they will certainly get through a bigger concern like this,but not be with me.Atleast many of my friends were with me.

Over to the bus, 10:00PM

Then we took our respective buses and then it was the time to inform my parents and my eagerly waiting sister.They were really exicted to know that i was placed,that too my sister was jumping in joy.Atlast reached my residence by 11:45 PM slowly slept after an hour or so.
